We have been designated a neighborhood, mission hub by the upper New York annual conference. Neighborhood hubs are designed to equip communities with the knowledge and resources needed to effectively respond to natural or human made disasters. They are a tangible expression of God’s healing power amid despair.
Responsibilities for the hub include storing UMCOR supplies, distributing the supplies and training our community in preparation for a disaster. In addition, the hub is connected to UMcOR, the local COAD(community organizations active in disaster) and partners who assist in both collecting and distributing supplies and reaching out in the event of a disaster.
UMCOR is the UMC’s international and domestic relief organization. Often, UMCOR representatives are the first on the ground following a disaster. 100% of all gifts and kits go toward serving people. We have been working closely with the United Methodist Committee on Relief(UMCOR) to be a hub for our area in terms of emergency supplies. Additionally we have trained to become Ambassadors and Early Response Team Members for response to disasters in our area. This also involves assisting with training of individuals, congregations, and communities in Emergency Preparedness.
Here's how you can help!
2. Give a monetary donation to Massena FUMC and earmark it for Missions relief, or donate to UMCOR directly. 100% of all donations go the disaster relief.
3. Collect items listed on the UMCOR charts and drop them off at Massena FUMC, 189 Main St. Massena. These donations will be held until such time we are contacted by UMCOR to provide relief to an area affected by a disaster. The collections are for Cleaning Buckets, Hygiene Kits and Menstrual Hygiene Kits. More information can be found here.
